Milton already had one of the most generous homestead exemption programs in North Fulton. Still, in 2022 the Milton City Council approved a resolution to increase homestead exemption opportunities for all adults aged 65 and older. Homestead exemptions apply to property owners who own and occupy a primary residence in Milton as of January 1 of a given tax year. Parcels of land without a primary residence do not qualify. Now there is one exemption for those ages 65 and over for $25,000 regardless of income. In addition, residents aged 70 and over now qualify for the full value exemption from municipal ad valorem taxes if their annual income is below $100,000. The exemptions are automatically renewed each year unless there is a change in ownership, you no longer meet the eligibility requirements, or you are requested to by the city. Homestead exemption applications for senior citizens must be filed by April 1 of a given tax year.
